COLLEGE OF COASTAL GEORGIA

NONTRADITIONAL RECYCLING PROJECT

In celebration of America Recycles Day, Keep Golden Isles Beautiful, the College of Coastal Georgia and the Brunswick Downtown Development Authority joined forces to provide an enhanced recycling opportunity on the college’s Brunswick campus.

Specialized recycling containers collect a specific waste stream that is often tossed in the garbage: writing pens, highlighters and markers. Currently not accepted in local recycling programs, the collected used writing implements are recycled by Keep Golden Isles Beautiful via TerraCycle, a global company with the motto “eliminating the idea of waste.” Marking America Recycles Day, six customized recycling bins purchased via a Hilton Travel with a Purpose grant now appear in high traffic campus areas to promote the program and offer ease of participation:

  • The ATTIC

  • 2nd floor Jones

  • 2nd floor Coffin

  • 2nd floor Nunally (HS)

  • Office of Student Life

America Recycles Day, a program of Keep America Beautiful, is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States. Every year on or around November 15 (America Recycles Day), millions turn out to thousands of local events held throughout the country to celebrate and learn more about their recycling programs.
