KGIB Volunteers Honored for Community Service

Celebrating community and honoring volunteers was the focus of Keep Golden Isles Beautiful’s recent Volunteer Recognition breakfast. With a staff of just two, the 46 year-old educational non-profit depends on volunteer effort, community/government partners and financial supporters to further community betterment activities, projects and initiatives.
Ten community volunteer and partner awards were presented for the calendar year 2024:
Community Partner of the Year/Non-Profit, UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant;
Community Partner of the Year/Profit, Brunswick Coca-Cola Bottling Company United;
Outstanding Public Service/City Government, Willie Williams;
Outstanding Public Service/County Government, Beth Mayer;
Outstanding Elected Official, Glynn County Commissioner Bo Clark;
Pittenger Environmental Steward of the Year, Nancy Neylans;
Horizon Award, Girl Scout Troops 300276 & 30024;
Shining Star Award, Golden Isles Track Club;
Hindery Adopt-A-Highway Volunteer of the Year Award, NAACP: Brunswick Branch;
Bootsie Mason Award of Excellence Tammy Fluech.
Each recipient received a custom-made award hand crafted from scrap wood and bicycle parts created by Terry Trowbridge. In 2024, residents and visitors volunteered with KGIB 5,449 times, for a combined 10,948 volunteer hours. In that year, 930 litter cleanups were conducted, removing 79 tons of litter.
