Local Law Enforcement Agencies to Target Unsecured Loads in April

BRUNSWICK, GA - (March 12, 2025) – The arrival of Spring 2025 brings with it more than the traditional “spring cleaning,” as the Brunswick Police Department, Glynn County Police Department and Glynn County Sheriff’s Office team up with Keep Golden Isles Beautiful to “clean up the roadways in more ways than one” for a joint unsecured load enforcement effort.

April will see enhanced unsecured load enforcement by all three local law enforcement agencies. Both State and local unsecured load laws call for the proper containment of anything from yard trash to construction materials in open truck beds or trailers. Violations of the unsecured load ordinances can be costly and pertain as well to items not properly secured, whether actively littering or not.

“Unsecured truck and trailer loads contribute greatly to the amount of roadside trash and litter in our community,” said KGIB executive director Lea King-Badyna. “Highways 303 and 17, the FJ Torras Causeway and Sea Island Road are prime examples of habitually littered roadways due to improperly secured loads.”

“Unsecured loads can be dangerous in addition to being a prime source of litter," said Glynn County Police Chief Scott Ebner . “Unsecured items pose a safety risk and can strike vehicles and cause accidents. Enforcing these regulations is just one way we work together with other law enforcement agencies to ensure Glynn County's roads are safe and clean. We're pleased to be a part of this joint effort."

Said Interim Brunswick Police Chief Angela Smith, "Securing loads is not only a legal requirement but also a critical measure to ensure the safety of everyone on the road. Whether transporting personal belongings in a pickup truck or securing industrial equipment on a commercial vehicle, it is the responsibility of the driver to make sure the load remains secure and does not fall or spill during transit."

“The safety of Glynn County is the Sheriff's Office's top priority. The highly trained deputies of the Glynn County Sheriff's Office enforce all laws to ensure the safety of both residents and visitors,” added Sheriff E. Neal Jump of the Glynn County Sheriff’s Office.
