Two July 5th Community Cleanups Slated, Volunteers Needed

BRUNSWICK, GA (June 21, 2023) – Add a little “green” to red, white and blue festivities this Independence Day holiday and help keep the Golden Isles clean, green and beautiful by joining one of TWO Keep Golden Isles Beautiful July 5th cleanups on St. Simons Island.

  • SSI - Old Coast Guard Station beach crossover, July 5th, 8AM

  • SSI - Pier/Village (meet at Village Inn and Pub), July 5th, 8AM

Sponsored by Yamaha RIGHTWATERS, the beach sweep is hosted by Savannah Bee Company and the Pier/Village cleanup is hosted by Village Inn and Pub.

Volunteers meet at one of the two designated locations to sign in and receive cleanup supplies. FREE VOLUNTEER T-SHIRTS AVAILABLE WHILE SUPPLIES LAST.

Volunteers will concentrate on possible litter left over from Fourth of July nighttime merry-making. “While fireworks are prohibited on Glynn County beaches, volunteers will be prepared to remove even the smallest pieces of fireworks debris, preventing possible marine debris that can be harmful to marine life,” said KGIB executive director Lea King-Badyna. “We are again expanding our efforts to assist County staff in the Pier/Village area of St. Simons as well. We really need volunteers in both locations.”

Several major public beach access points and beach parking lots will also be tackled in the effort. All ages and abilities are welcome to participate. All cleanup supplies will be provided.
